Happy New Year! Labguy's World celebrates its twenty second year on the interent. I started this site shortly after my father's passing in 1997. I never dreamed it would last this long. The earliest versions of the site would fit on a single 1.44MB floppy disk! You can still find some of the itsy bitsy tiny images scattered around some of the older pages. You had to use small files in those days to save disk space. Today, I have an unlimited amount of storage that I pay for from my own pocket. Virtually no sponsors! This site will live as long as I will. Hopefully, for a long time to come. Knock on wood!

In recent times, the emphasis of this site has moved from the VTR and camera collection, which reached saturation a few years back, and on to my electronics projects. So far, I have produced a CBS field sequential color television replica, several mechanical televisions called Televisors, in both color and black and white, a triniscope 3 CRT color television, a scan circuit develeopment test bed called Cyclops, restored and designed two iconoscope television cameras, restored an image orthicon camera, and obtained a very high quality BW flying spot scanner.

One thing that erked me deeply this year was my work at SUCCESSFULLY making TWO different Farnsworth image dissector tubes operate, with virtually no documentation. The sound of the crickets this generated really pissed me off and left me discouraged. I would have expected some of my loyal fans to broadcast this achievement far and wide. Beware your own expectations. They can be highly poisonous. The dissector project is shelved until the appropriate recognition is delivered. If the world doesn't care about this, then neither do I. Why should I invest my time, money and nerves into a project that no one appreciates? Yep. Sour grapes!

Up coming projects include a classic Indian Head test pattern generator, a color flying spot, 35mm slide, scanner AND a DuMont Vitascan camera simulator. A full color, NBTV system capable of live video, recording and playback and various display options is also in the works. It is almost time for me to pick up a vidicon tube and do something amazing with it too. Just to name a few possibilities.

The electronics project called The Chief has been moving along rather slowly as the problems of magnetic deflection were solved. This stage has been successfully completed and the project moves forward now at a healthy pace. It should be completed withing a couple of weeks if we are very lucky! Stay tuned!
