1973 Philips LDL-1002 B/W Video Tape Recorder
.
I obtained this European version of the Philips VTR from my fellow collector in France, Bruno Merlier. Thanks Bruno! This 50Hz CCIR VTR records BW video and audio for a total of 45 minutes on 450 meters of half inch tape. The spool size is approximately 5".
The take up reel drive is by way of a clever mechanism. An aluminum disc is attached to the reel hub and driven from the main motor by magnetic coupling. Also called an eddy current drive. No rubber wheels or belts to rot out! No surface friction!
This particular specimen is in operational condition. Since LDL-1002 utilizes AC synchronous motors and comes from Europe, I am going to have to assemble a 50 Hz power converter. Bruno provided a French computer back up power supply for this purpose. That should work nicely. If I ever get a chance to set it all up, you'll certainly read about it here. As usual, Stay tuned!

Wanted: Service manuals and or Operator's manuals for this machine.
