I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Anderson on July 4, 2003 in Reno, Nevada.
Many thanks to Tim Stoffel for the introduction.
Hey, Tim! when are you going to post the great VTR moving adventure?

I know that Charley Anderson and Alex Maxey worked on some of the early helical scan VTR prototypes at Ampex. The Joe Roizen Archive contains many photos of this early equipment. Some is documented, most is not. The first two photos are of a helical scan prototype VTR using a small diameter scanner. Any information on this machine is greatly appreciated!

These next set of photos are of the Anderson / Maxey VR-8000 prototype and pre-production model. Enjoy!

Here is an actual shot of the "lolipop" video head being inserted into the scanner of the VR-8000.
