SV-707 Record Only portapack VTR and FP-707 vidicon camera
SV-707 Record Only portapack VTR and FP-707 vidicon camera
SV/FP-707U: New Photo & Info 02.08.04! An early B/W reel to reel Record Only non-EIAJ VTR from approximately 1969. "FP" is the prefix for Shibaden camera model numbers. "SV" is the prefix for Shibaden VTR model numbers. What a surprise for LabGuy! 25 years of research on this topic, and I have NEVER seen this model before May 7, 2001! This portapack was also sold under the Bell & Howell trademark as well. That was known as [Model Number 114999]. There is a Bell & Howell portapack in LabGuy's collection. Here is the description from the Shibaden Catalog:
This new portable camera/tape recorder combination delivers the ultimate in quality and reliability. Weighing only 21 lbs., including its zoom lens and microphone, it may be operated on either a self contained rechargeable battery pack or regular house current, using the optional AC Adapter model number SV-707UAC, and can be taken anywhere. Used in combination with other Shibaden models in the SV-700UL or SV-800UL VTR series, it offers instant playback of recorded materials. [CLICK HERE] to read the features and specifications of the SV/FP-707U portable VTR & Camera. The catalog calls out five inch reels, but since I have one of these, I know for a fact that the reels are only 4.25 inches. Five inch reels will NOT fit on this machine. Hence, the 800 foot length of tape with the twenty minutes running time called out in the spec's fits on the smaller reel. A five inch reel holds 1200 feet of 1 mil tape.
UPDATE 04.01.14:  Just like the Sony DV-2400, this portapack also used a small hand crank for shuttling the tape. This saves a great deal of weight by not including the larger motors necesary for this. Thanks to William Meyer for pointing out this ommission! Photo#1 & System Spec's: 1969? SV-700UL: New Photo & Info 02.08.04! This is a self contained high quality, moderately priced solid state B/W video tape recorder, from approximately 1968, employing two rotary heads and operating on the helical scan principal. It has been designed especially for commercial, industrial, educational, medical, and related applications. It can record TV broadcasts from a conventional TV receiver (with adapter), its own TV monitor, or from a Shibaden TV camera. It can also function as an integral part of a Shibaden Closed Circuit TV System. Mechanically, the SV-700UL offers better performance than any other VTR of the same size and price range. Its twin rotary heads are made of especially developed metal for longer recording life. With a frequency range of more than 3.5 Mhz, it delivers more than 300 lines of horizontal resolution, has a 43 dB signal to noise ratio, and guarantees complete tape compatibility from one SV-700UL to another. (Most recorders, even those of the same make and model, cannot meet this requirement.) The SV-700UL is mounted in a heavy duty portable carrying case suitable for both field and indoor use. SV-800UL: New Photo & Info 02.08.04! This is a self contained high quality, moderately priced solid state B/W video tape recorder, from approximately 1968, featuring a built in 9 inch receiver / monitor and an audio / video modulator. It has been designed especially for commercial, industrial, medical and related applications. The SV-800UL can be used to record "live" action with sound using a Shibaden CCTV camera, or record both the video and audio portions of any standard TV broadcast through its built in receiver / monitor. The built in receiver / monitor shows the operator what he is actually recording on the tape and serves as a TV screen for instant playback of the recorded material. In addition, the unit serves as the program source for off the air recording, and as an aid to picture composition when recording "live" with a Shibaden TV camera. The RF modulator makes it possible to combine separate audio and video signals by feeding them to the antenna inputs of a conventional TV receiver. Employing two rotary heads and operating on the helical scan recording principle, the SV-800UL delivers more than 300 lines of horizontal resolution, a 42 dB signal to noise ratio, and guarantees complete tape interchangability from one SV-800Ul to another, or to the SV-700UL series.
